The above photograph was
published in a local daily of Kolkata (Anandabazar Patrika 08/11/2009)
which shows 20 odd breast cancer patients marched in a rally
organized by a NGO on the occasion of "Cancer awareness day". These
ladies claim to have overcome cancer and doing well since past five
years, with their mental strength and the aid of customary
treatment.

‘Cancer Sahyog’ – a voluntary
emotional support group working under the aegis of the Delhi Branch of
the Indian Cancer Society (ICS) issued an appeal. This appeal is so
much self-explanatory that it merits verbatim reproduction here: “We
have at present a limited pool of volunteer cancer survivors
associated with us. We would therefore, appeal to survivors to join
our effort to provide emotional support to those living with cancer
and to their families. Cancer survivors who wish to assist should be
free of their disease for at least a year and should have positive
attitude towards their cancer experience." – The Hindustan Times,
Letters to the editor, June 8, 1998.
